Honey, here's a word of advice. When you take your normal hair and squash it into a severe updo for a formal evening, you will HATE all the pictures of your dance for years to come. If you have longer hair, try a sweeping 1940's Hollywood Glam style that is a more natural formal look. Google search an image of Veronica Lake.

The hideous updo's that hairstylists and Mom's with NO TASTE talk girls into every freaking year look terrible, feel terrible (tons of hairspray!) and when they start to unravel after a few hours of dancing, you will start to look disturbingly like a beat up hooker. Not exactly a memory anyone wants.

Try something more natural that compliments your face shape and add a little sparkle with some crystal hairpins or even a gorgeous gardenia flower tucked into the back.

And Dear God, go easy on the makeup! Again, is it a dance or Clown College?

You will be much happier and your date will think you look like a million dollars of confident beauty instead of a kid with $30, a cousin with a hair dressers license and a dress from the mall.

ok, so i may wear this dress from beyonce's line (dereon) for my winter formal. i'm 5'6'', have some curves in the hip area and long legs. i'm planning on wearing it with maybe 2-3 inch heels, super straight or really wavy and curly hair. big earrings are my only accessory. i just really like to dress up and stand out, but i wanted other people's feedback. i;m not really concerned with what other girls are wearing, just if it's to clubish? CONSTRUCTIVE criticism only please- i don't need no negativity. any suggestions would be great.

It's pretty short, so I don't recommend wearing heels since you already have long legs. Maybe try lace-up sandals? Those are great for highlighting toned legs.

If you really want to stick with heels, though, perhaps wear it with black tights--they're classy and will help cover you up (they'll also help if you have worries about it riding up, which will most likely happen if you're going to be dancing a lot.)

I like the idea of wavy hair with it. It's a really cute dress!

No offence, but it reminds me of plastic wrap. But anyway, If it's a formal dance, that is probably too short and clib-ish. Depending on how formal it is, I would think it should be at least a few inches longer.

Semi-formal outfit ideas, old-school hollywood glam theme?

My semi formal in coming up in mid-February. This week I'll be doing my shopping. I was planning on just a cocktail dress, but does anyone have any ideas to fit the theme of " Old school Hollywood Glam"? I was thinking of doing my hair in finger waves, as well. :] Thank you in advance.

-foundation/concealer

-light eye liner on bottom lid and top.. and a little winged at the ends to make it look cute

- blush.. close to ur skin tone not too dramatic

- eye shadow.. id go with gold or just really naturall...

- either really light kind of pink lip gloss.. or a bit darkerr

if i were you id get a light shade of brown and a dark shade of brown eyshadow and fade it out and then get a gold (maybe glitter) eyeliner pencil two put around the top and outter corner of your eye and then for your lips id use a light glossy reddish color

I'd do blush on apples of cheeks-kind of rosy. Light eye makeup and redddish gloss. Shouldn't do lips and eyes to dramatic at same time. I liked the suggestion of browish/gold eyeshadow. I'm fair too and have to make sure bronzer isn't too dark, but it does help.
